ATI 9600Pro vs. Nvidia 5600
Reviewed by James Sams on 09.26.2003

Conclusions
Nvidia is truly losing their grip on in the graphics card market, between these benchmarks and the recent announcement that their cards may be unable to perform anti-aliasing in UnReal2. Whether this will prove to be a long-term trend or is just a slump is a matter of speculation. But one thing is for sure, ATI is proving that competition in the markets is a good thing. They will force Nvidia to reach farther and harder, drop prices, and make better drivers. At the moment, if you have an 9500 series or TI 4x00 series card, there is no reason to upgrade because no games on the market require the DirectX 9 architecture that these cards provide. However, if you are two or more generations behind current cards, and do not require the greatest card on the market, these cards are aptly priced for solid performance and compatibility with the newest games in the forseeable future. While the 5600 does fall short on several benchmarks, it is still a solid contender for DirectX 9 midrange cards. Nevertheless, ATI has taken the cake in this review with their 9600PRO.
