Display Taiwan 2007
The Display Taiwan 2007 Show
The Display Taiwan show is much different from that of CES or last weeks Computex shows in that Display Taiwan is much more of an industry show. It is meant as a gathering of manufacturers and vendors to demonstrate their ability to provide products and technology. The show is a meet and greet and is aimed at improving Taiwans affiliations, contacts, and market share world wide. Much like the culture in Taiwan, the government and people don't accept Status Quo and are constantly seeking to improve their products and company. These are traits much lacking in American businesses and practices. TechwareLabs represented the press for online websites in America at this show and we were invited very kindly by TAITRA which stands for the Taiwan Trade industry counsel. The manufacturers and vendors at this show were unaccustomed to having press coverage or press members at the show are were very open to comments and suggestions abotu their products. It seems that most of these companies are very interested in keeping their customers satisfied, another company value lacking in American businesses in general.
At the Display Taiwan show we also saw laser and solar technologies explored. In addition to LCD's this show is all about optics and light technology and they use the Display Taiwan venue to tie together several different disciples that are related. Manufacturers of Red, Green, Blue, and UV lasers had their products on display (rather bright displays as well) to show what lasers are capable of. Medical, data, and image display uses were on demonstration on the show floor. What caught our attention the most had to be the solar demonstration. For such a small show Display Taiwan managed to demonstrate more working applications of solar technology than was presented in all of Computex and CES combined. Everything from street lighting utilizing amazingly bright LED's to notebook and cell phone chargers were shown and working.
LED technology was at the forefront of many displays at the show. LED's have come such a long way that many of the bigger than life displays at not only the show but also around the city of Taipei utilized entirely LED's and the pictures they showed were amazingly clear and bright. The Taipei Arena is a large circular building several stories tall with walls of glass. Behind the front glass wall of the Arena is an example of an LED display in use. The current advertisement is for BMW cars and utilizes vey little energy for the amount of light it produces. At Display Taiwan a similar example was setup and looked like the photo below.

These massive wall covering displays ae generated typically by grouping four LED's in an RGB configuration and linking them by way of ribbon cable. The LED's weigh next to nothing so the display is very easy to take down and set up. The overwealming benefit of this form of display is the energy savings and size capability of the display.
In all we were tremendously impressed with the technology demonstrated at Display Taiwan and we expect other countries will be as well. Taiwan has proven they deserve to be the leader in this growing field with huge revenue potential by their dedicated efforts to improve their technology offering.
