EHX Network Gaming Boot Camp

Network and home gaming is a huge industry. Many of the vendors present at EHX have gaming in mind with their products. Everything from HiFi audio couches and headsets to 3D TV sets and home networking for games is available. Each of the vendors realizes the potential income to be gained by addressing gamers. In the Network Gaming Bootcamp EHX presenters focused in on the growing trend of online games. More and more gamers are available for purchase online and are used online only. The gaming industry releases make more money in their first release than does the motion picture industry with movies.

As you can see the availability of games is entering the household and becoming easier to access. Consumers who previously might not have purchased or played games are now entering this market in growing numbers due to the ease with which games are being made available.

In game advertising will become commonplace in the near future as many of the developers consider it a way to subsidize the game and offer it at a lower cost to consumers. Wheather this is the truth we at TWL doubt greatly. More than likely in game advertisements are a way the developer uses to further capitalize on the profits. While some may see it as adding realism most will probably find it distracting in its current implimentation.

As you can see in Grand Theft Auto Vice City the In game advertising is literally wall to wall when turned on.

In the end it seems that In-Game Advertising is not going away. The recognition of gaming as a leading role in home audio, video, and networking is growing and will eventually lead to technologies that allow consumers to play against and communicate with other people across the world in real time in evnvironments that are startling in both interactivity and realism.
