AMD Phenom Preview
Preview Conclusion:
We have covered only a small portion of all the information available on the new Phenom. What the data boils down to in the end is that AMD is releasing not only the new Phenom processor which looks to hold a nice performance advantage over the current X2's and Quad Core processors from both Intel and AMD, but also a series of flexible platforms to go with them. There is a good plan in place that in true AMD fashion allows consumers the ability to upgrade without complete conversion or loss of all of their hardware. AMD/ATI even have a graphic solution in place for these platforms that covers everything from basic PC use and video playback all the way to super high end gaming with a Crossfire 4X solution. Check Please! I'll take one thanks.
We at TWL look forward to getting our hands on actual silicon and a test rig to get some hard numbers out of. We purposely withheld AMD's preliminary benchmark numbers where many other website will publish them. The reason for this is that these numbers come directly from AMD and we cannot validate the hardware or software used in their creation. When we get actual silicon in house we will publish results based on a known hardware amd software set which you as a consumer will be able to go out and purchase.
Until then we think the Phenom is definitely got some sting to it and Intel may well be feeling the stinger approaching. We love that AMD continues to think of its consumers first with regards to their CPU's and planning their upgrades. Hello Intel . . . your consumers want a platform from which they dont have to chuck 4GB of ram out the window along with a processor and motherboard in order to upgrade. Yeah thanks for the entire RDRAM thing.
