Siggraph 2003: San Diego

Article by Michael Tran and Harry Lam
July 27-31, 2003

ATI:

ATI admitted that they had a lot of ground to catch up behind nVidia's Quadro line of workstation products, but the company seems to be committed to creating a strong and solid workstation solution with their FireGL products.  At this year's Siggraph, ATI unveiled two new products: their FireGL X2-256 and FireGL T2-128.

The FireGL X2-256 is ATI's new high-end workstation card, based off of the Radeon 9800.  According to a few numbers furnished in ATI and nVidia's press kits, ATI's FireGL X2-256 seems to offer performance similar to nVidia's Quadro FX 1000.  This is their top of the line workstation card, with a pricy MSRP of $999.

The FireGL T2-128 is ATI's entry level workstation card, based off of the Radeon 9600.  This card has a relatively affordable $379 MSRP and offers performance surpassing nVidia's current generation entry level card.
