mouse delay

when i play the game counterstrike if i have the resolution at 1024x768 my mouse delays when i turn.it didn't used to when i had dial up but now it does. could that be my graphics card because ik i do need to get a new on and i am working on getting a job right now to get a 9700 or a 9800.is the 9800 8x or 4x because i only have 4x :shake:

eviltechie 03-15-2003 09:00 PM

AGP8x is AGP4x backward compatible

but there is no point in having a good card just for CS

CS isnt graphics demanding
there might be background programs running when u were playing
check the task manager list

Marine 03-16-2003 07:38 AM

i'm not just getting it for CS. and no there are no progs running in the backround. i just wish i could fix this problem i have the resolution 800x600 to eliminate most of the problem but i hate it like that and i never had this problem wehn with dial up.

Marine 03-16-2003 09:18 AM

if i run is opengl for long enough my video card screws up.but if i am in software my fps sucks and i hate how it looks but for the most part no lag.it didn't do this with dial up! what is wrong.

eviltechie 03-16-2003 01:44 PM

ok maybe a decend card

but u need a better comp to get the most out of 9800
the whole thing will be a bottleneck for that card

Marine 03-16-2003 05:34 PM

yeah thats what i was asking about the 9800 for cause i only have a 4x agp slot so i would be better off with a 9700 because i wouldn't be able to get the most out of the 9800 because of the 4x.but dude it didn't lag like this will dial up.because i have ddr ram does that mean i have to get a video card with ddr or can it be anything?i want ddr anyways cause it's faster but i'm having my mom by me a video card like a GeForce2 or something just to hold me over until i get my job.

Jason425 03-16-2003 05:56 PM

sorry to bust your buuble... but every card from 9500 up.. maybe even 9000.. is 8x.. i'm on 4x mboard.. not too big of a deal..

eviltechie 03-16-2003 07:37 PM

you wont get the most out of 9800 not even 9700 and its not just because of AGP8x

its also your processor is too slow to get the maximum performance out of 9700

i would consider going atleast 2GHz P4 before getting a 9700 Pro

Marine 03-16-2003 08:21 PM

ok fine w/e but right now i wanna know about the GeForce2do i need DDR memory on my video card if my ram is DDR on my mb?.this is gay i just this computer got this summer and already it's to slow.

eviltechie 03-17-2003 12:21 AM

no u dont need to have identical type of memory for video card and system

Geforce2 MX200, lowest of Geforce2 is just fine for CS because i had one with my athlon 1.2

it was all good
i think there must be some programs u forgot to close
or u turn some graphics features on
u need to play with display options a bit in both CS and your display properties/advanced

Marine 03-17-2003 06:44 AM

ok thanks man look like a new rig is in the lookin for this summer.

Omega_work 03-17-2003 12:14 PM

What mouse are you using? Not wireless, I hope.

Marine 03-17-2003 02:54 PM

yes and i love it and it doesn't lag any when i have the resolution on 800x600.my mouse works great and it never lags.Eviltechie what does Aopen mean on a graphics card? on this site it has a GeForce MX400 64mb but no memory type i want DDR.

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...iption=Geforce

eviltechie 03-17-2003 05:58 PM

AOpen is a good brand which makes cheap graphics card with fairly decend quality

my Ti4200 128mb is made by AOpen

it has VIVO

i think its enuf for your comp
you can just buy a new graphics card
such as 9500 Pro

see how it does
if it still lags, get a new comp

Marine 03-17-2003 06:40 PM

yeah thats what i was planning on doing when i get my job but i need at least GeForce2 to hold me ober for a little bit.and i and prolly gonna get me a new comp anyways.

Omega 03-18-2003 05:03 PM

Before you go and spend hundreds of dollars on a new system, or video card, at least try it with any PS/2 mouse. Without actually seeing the behavior it's somewhat difficult to diagnose, but this is definately worth a try.

eviltechie 03-18-2003 05:18 PM

yeah
sorry i didnt think if this first

try a smooth gliding mouse which has good pixels

Marine 03-18-2003 08:16 PM

You have a very fast system. It may not be by today's standards, but realistically, none of those components should be causing lag in CS. I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to jump to an upgrade. Before considering that, you should first try updating everything and reinstalling everything. My Athlon 1.0 GHz is just fine for most games and applications. Recently, I have been too swamped to do "regular maintenance" (I usually format every few weeks) and it has started to lag in performance. Every time something like this happens, I format it and it is fine. This is why I suggest doing a format before upgrading.

You should also update all BIOS's as one may not be running very efficently alongside your NIC.

Marine 03-23-2003 07:08 PM

oh well dude i just bought this GeForce (See Specs below) and i have no lag on CS and i get 60fps on it now. Nothing is wrong with mouse i love wireless optical or at least mine. also when i had my chipset vid card on and eveyrthing i used my wire mouse and it still lagged. so everything is cool now and i love my video card. if i don't need a faster system how come eviltechie said i did? maybe he is just to full of his system.lol.
