You don't have to download anything. After installing the Windows Genuine Advantage ActiveX validation tool, you can simply go to Tools -> Manage Add-Ons, select Windows Genuine Advantage, and click Disable.

Alternatively, after downloading the ActiveX validation tool, go to Microsoft Update or Windows Update, paste this into your address bar:

and press enter. Then continue with your update session as normal.

Obviously this shouldn't be used to facilitate the use of unlicensed/illegally licensed software. The WGA software is by no means perfect, and has reported plenty of legitimate software as illegal. While you still should contact Microsoft about the problem, this is a reasonable way to be able to update your software until you have time to straighten out issues like that.
