Hm...I'm quite tempted, but also quite skeptical about installing Direct X 9. Not only is it a new version of a Microsoft product, but a *beta* of a new version...that can't be very stable...I'll see, and maybe test it out before a Windows reinstall.

This is exactly what ATI did before, either last year or year before, it all seems the same to me now. NVidia has the market and has the revenues to drive the research. Their technology has always been better. ATI's drivers are bad enough, but when coupled with an MS beta, as Omega said, it won't be stable. They should have waited and enhanced the product while waiting and then released when DX9 official release comes out. They just want to get it out before Nvidia gets their's out in October-November.

Yes ATI has the lead right now, but NV's new project called NV-30 is supposedly(various online sources so i cant vouge for it) 30% higher in performance than anything out there. Pretty amazing if you think of how fast the ati is now and to realize that NV-30 will be EVEN FASTER. Try a web serch.

Yeah, that is going to be the GeForce 5. ATI was in a rush to ship theirs' out now, even though they had to sacrafice testing and the release of DirectX 9. The GF5 will also have far superior graphics. Nvidia has always had the best overall package, even in the day of the Voodoo; the Voodoo was barely ahead in 3D performance, but with other performance, the 128 (like the STB Velocity 12 toasted them. ATI can just hope that Nvidia will have delays to push their sales.

uranium, if he had a nV card did he read the README.txt which comes with GTA3 as that tells you how to fix the problem with nVidia cards (i know as i have a GF3 and had to do it )

nV definately own the market atm, the GF4 is only beaten on OpenGL against the radeon 8000 basically, and nowadays most games use DX by default, some don't even bother with OGL
