Mac users are smarter and richer than us...yeah, great. With less than 5% of the market, that simply means that when 40 smart people buy a Mac, versus 40 smart people buying a PC, their 40 smart people are going to account for hm, about 10% of Apple's gross sales (well, maybe that's exaggerating a little, but the point stands).

"The greater affluence and education level of those who surf using a Mac is attributable in part to [... Apple's] pricier machines." Uh, so basically people buy Macs, which are more expensive, simply because they're more expensive? Yeah...no wonder you're going to get richer people as a user base.

"[Mac users'] longer surfing histories and their greater willingness to buy products via the Web, makes Mac consumers a prime catch for marketers." Hm, interesting that they're buying things online, seeing as how retail stores carry relatively nothing in the Mac department. They simply have to buy their things online, because they can't get them anywhere else.

"Nielsen/NetRatings said that 70.2 percent of Mac users online have a college degree, compared with 54.2 percent of all Web surfers." Well, maybe that's because it takes a f-ing college degree to get everything set up right on the Mac, and find some obscure place to download functional Mac internet software. Believe me, after spending 2+ hours setting up iMacs and an Apple AirPort at my job, after having set it up with PCs and a Netgear RT311 in about 10 minutes...a college degree can come in handy.

If 70% of online Mac users have a college degree, that means they're sure not reaching a very big audience... To have a PC, you don't need a college degree, plus there's so much more one can do for functionality, upgradeability, and whatever else one would want on PCs. On a Mac it may be easy to transfer music to an iPod, but that means it natively, easily supports about 0.01% of the market mp3 players. Additionally, if you want to have it function as a portable HDD, like they advertise it can, you do have to do extra work, and that college degree will come in handy.

Well, whatever...I think I've lost my train of thought here...maybe because I don't have my college degree like 70% of the online Mac users, which make up about 0.7% of the web. Either that, or it's 3:15 AM...you know, either way.

Yeah, I agree totally with Omega. Take for example my uncle, a chemical engineer, he only uses Macs. He not poor by anymeans; He lives on a hill in an exclusive neighborhood just near the beach. He fits perfectly in to the generalization presented: rich and educated. But, basically, Mac is catering to mostly the educated who has more money.

Are Mac Users Smarter??
Let's look at the facts.  They got a slower computer with almost no upgrade options, and nearly no product availiblity (seen any great MAC titles lately??)  My question is "Mac (l)users are smarter than what?"

What if? I ask you what if a person were to use both PC and MACs. What would the question be then?

And exactly what is the importance. That's like asking who's smarter, someone who uses AMD or Intel CPU's?

Common, we can't be this board to come up with these silly questions. Or can we  : ?

I think that smarter is a relative term. In my opinion, a bum can smarter than a rich fellow any day. Everyone knows that MACs are used for digital editing. That's about all they are good for. Editing pictures and sound and stuff. Smarter, I don't think so. It's that tiny little vertical market that they have.

I agree on these above posts...they obviously dont point out the intelligence of the PC buyers..as there are many...and i think if the 2 were compared...well id have to say that the PC would chug just a bit harder...id have to agree w/ GR on this that there arent that many upgrades that come w/ the macs as they are either a version or 2 behind most PC programs

This question has absolutely nothing to do with the buyers/users/ IQ. But it does deal with praticallity, ease of use, (user friendly) available software, etc etc, neirher does it deal with which is superior. The public does not always support what is superior ( if macs were ) . Marketing strategies also has a lot to do with what's popular. Actually, many of the MAC features were borrowed and introduced to the PC, such as USB, SCSI and probally FireWire.

When VCR's were introduced way back in the 60's, the BETA Technology was the best, but the public bought VHS. When I worked as a TV Pioneer in the 60's, setting up new TV Stations, and adding color to the older black/white stations, CBS had what was called the " Flying Spot Scanner " Color Technology and was trying very hard to get it standardized, it was far superior to the NTSC method that the FCC finally adopted as U.S. Standard. Then there is the SECAM and PAL methods that European countries use, which could be argured is superior to our NTSC color standard.
BTW, when was the last time you programed your VCR and set it's clock ? and didn't you ask for opinions ?

Sony was the co-inventor of FireWire..and coincidentally just about the only PC manufacturer who's pushing FireWire...but yes, some good technology has come from Apple. Take the GUI, and mouse, for example...
