Default Ever remove the Digital to Analog converter from an LCD?

Noticed lots of people hacking displays to get LCDs to work with their VGA cards... I have the opposite situation:

I have an SVA 17" LCD screen that uses an analog (VGA) input. I figure it must have a DAC in the display housing somewhere... Since I now have a board with DVI output, I'm wondering if I could hack out the DAC from the display and convert the display to accept a DVI input.

Has anyone ever done this? I haven't cracked the display's case yet, but I'm thinking I might do some exploratory surgery this weekend and see what's what.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Regards,
Drew
