Default Duff digital camera

Last Christmas, my sister bought me a Kodak 'Easyshare' digital camera - supposedly 3.2 megapixels. Okay, it's only a Kodak so I wasn't expecting it to be brilliant but the results are very disappointing. The pictures are always under-exposed - even if I take them in daylight and even if I use the flash. I can tweak the results using the supplied software but by the time I've got the pictures bright enough, they seem to be very fuzzy. For example, any kind of text is unreadable.

I can't decide whether it's just a crap camera or whether there's something wrong with it. Any suggestions?
