One of the great things about Moore's Law is that fast, high-quality hardware just keeps getting cheaper as newer, still faster versions are released. A case in point is the Jetway mobo reviewed here - the price tag would have been about double what it is now a year ago! Provided you can cope with not having the ultimate fastest PC you can still have a very capable machine for very little outlay. Here's a snip from the review:

Audio is provided on-board in the form of a basic AC97 audio implementation using the Via VT8233A South-bridge, which is fine for the usual windows pops and bangs and playing MP3's, and won't upset anyone except the hardened audiophile. As it is a controller less solution the gamers might want to invest in a dedicated card..."
