Default RAID Speed Slow on Gigabyte Products

Hi,

I got a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP motherboard couple weeks ago. I configured RAID-0 with 2 x Maxtor ATA133 60GB drives. I discovered that the RAID-0 confguration is very slow. The SIS Sandra Drive Index only get ~10% more than using a single ATA133 disk. The following is my SIS Sandra File System result:

No RAID with single Maxtor ATA133 60GB drive: ~26k.
RAID-0 with 2 x Maxtor ATA133 60GB drives: ~29k.

As compare to my ASUS A7V-266E motherboard with an ATA100 RAID-0 configuration, it reaches ~40k.

My conclusion is that don't be fooled by this motherboard's RAID capability. If you need to use the RAID configuration, choose another manufacturer.

If you need more info, go to the following site:

There were several posting on similar problem with other Gigabyte motherboards.

just wanted to make a note that Maxtor never was the fastest HDD around even when they make disks for ibm.

does the RAID controller support ATA133? and IBM are proven to be fastest but not most secure. That is left to Western Digital.

Also, Asus makes far better mobo's that Gigabyte.

Thanks Aoshi.  Lots of people run down maxtor but mine runs like a dream.  Only problems I've ever had with mine I've traced back to me running partinioning tools and to my crappy MOBO which isn't an ASUS.  Ya live and ya learn.

motherboards make all the difference. i installed windows xp, which is supposed take over an hour, in under 20 min's on my tbird 1ghz on Abit. way faster than an athlon XP 2000+ on a crappy mobo.

who has better customer service, abit or asus?
--abit has customer service just not much of a response when you need it.

mobos don't make ALL the difference, but the combination of installed HW & SW components, that's obvious

as for support I never heard anybody talking about great customer service from any manufacturer.
Seems like the sharks don't care about simple customer

I used to wait for replay from MS & Novell about 4 (!) days
