Default CD-rom ejecting by itself!

This is very odd. On my parent's computer. I see the read light come on every once in a while (for a very short time). And sometimes, the burn light will come on for like less then a second. and every once in a while, it will eject by itself.

I can't figure this out. I downloaded AVG virus scan free version (I'll probably get Norton 2003 very soon). It found no viruses.

could the CD-rom be going bad?

I'ts a Omega Zip-CD 650 (8x4x32) yeah it's pretty old. I have no idea what is going on here.

I'm not even sure how what this falls under, so I put it in the general board

Odd indeed, anything change recently, upgrade OS, flash bios. Might want to see if there is a new bios for the burner, I know plextors you can update, if it's going screwy a new flash might help.

well, I just tested multiple CD-rom's on it, and it will not read any of them. So, it is a bad CD-rom. Which I'm glad of, cause if it was a software thing, it would be a pain-in-the-ass to find what was doing it. I would probably have to re-install windows.

But not now. It's just a bad 4-year-old CdRW
