HELP!!!

Dear Panel of Experts,

I have a really bad case of CPU Overheating. Its not overheating to the point of instability, however.

I have an AMD XP 2000+ CPU. It idles a 60 degrees celsius or 140 degrees Farenheit. I dont overclock either.

Thats the lowest temperature i can get it (previously idling at 7, after spending $200 (australian) on an Antec Super LanBoy and buying a Coolermaster Jet 7+ Turbine cooler. I've also got 2 120mm fans.

I don't know what else to do. It's running unacceptably hot. Help, someone?

Sorry, in correction of the above : it was previously idling at (78 degrees celcius)

Have you put the thermal compound on correctly.. I used to have a 2000+... it used to be sooo hot it burned out on me.. If you DO have enough compound then my next guess is the coolermaster heatsink is just not good enough. I bought a Volcano 7+ back then with my 2000+ and it was still terribly hot.

Yeah, way too high of a core speed for those processors. Definatly make sure you get the thermal compound on there properly. You may also want to look at this: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=372000

That's a much better cooler for what you've got going.

wipe the whole bottom of the sink clean, put goop on it, wipe that off, then put a tiny amoudn and spread it out.. that'll do it! also make sure your voltage for the cpu is at the stock level.

try to find isopropyl alcohol that is about 99% pure
no less than 90%

clean the bottom of the heatsink with it
and the cpu die as well

then buy some arctic silver 5 and apply it using the directions on www.arcticsilver.com

these two steps should drop your temperature by quite a bit
