Default HELP!!! NTLRD missing!!!

hi

i no that theres a few of these but ill tell u my situation caus i still cant seem to get it working.

I think i must have deleted the NTLDR and or the NTDETECT.COM file while clearing whatever looked like junk on the family computer.

Anyway, this is WinXP Pro, Celeron 2.6Ghz, 256 RAM.

Ive got a startup disk, but its from a WinME comp, but it gets me to the dos (WinXP didnt get to dos command i dont think). After i got to dos command i transfered both of the files (NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM) to the c drive, but when i go c:\dir, it coms up telling me the name of the c drive is 'MS-RAMDRIVE' instead of 'hard disk'.

It also says that there is 0 directorys in the c drive, and has different looking files on it, files that look like a boot disk ive seen, but its not the floppy i have in the comp.

Thanks, any kind of help is apriciated becasue im going bananas over this.

win ME can't read NTFS, which is most likely what file system your drive is in. Your best bet is to boot from the XP cd and reinstal the OS, and then not go around deleting things :P

yep yep..... best not to go around deleting things that look like junk (aka things you don't recognize)

or if you really feel the need to go around deleting stuff at least verify what you are deleting

Boot to the XP CD. Choose the repair option.

I did that once.. back in windows 95 though.. :P I always learn things the hard way (like bending a pin on a cpu at work and having to fix it or get owned!)
