Default New Microsoft Eula: we own your comp now

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/25956.html

New Eula for the latest WMP patch says if you use it Microsoft now has the right to d/l any patch they see fit and it may activate, and with Digital Rights Management, may break your computer and they don't even have to tell you.  "We will attempt to make an effort to post our intentions on a web site".  This is gettin out of hand guys.  Can someone help me with my Mandrake 8.1 install?

Yeah, they are trying to get hooks in ya, to prevent the linux wave from growin too much. That makes it ironic that you brought up linux...

What part do ya need help in with installin it? The first thing that comes to mind that could give you a hard time is you have to create a root drive when installin linux. \ is your root drive... (I am not too advanced with linux yet tho   so I might not be much help)

yet another reason I stick with WMP 6.4. And besides I hear DivX plays worse on anything above 6.4.

Dennis Miller once said that "Bill Gates is just a monocle and a Persian Cat away from being one of the bad guys in a James Bond movie."

The first article is his monocle, second one is his cat

Yhea I think I left some links over on News about those U-235.  I'm havin' some trouble findin' a supported modem for Linux.  So much of my crap is Win-modems' or unsupported.  I'm shoppin' at New-egg as we speak for a good Linux compatible.  Other Linux problem is My Asus Ge-force 2 has some compatability problems.  I'm so green at Linux it hurts.  Oh well I got Lilo sorted out and can get both OS's to boot and Shutdown properly so that in itself in an accomplishment.  Screw microsoft, long live the penguin.

Here's the exact quote out of a patch install on a WMP 6.4 box
Quote:
*          Digital Rights Management (Security).  You agree that in order to protect the integrity of content and software protected by digital rights management ("Secure Content"), Microsoft may provide security related updates to the OS Components that will be automatically downloaded onto your computer.  These security related updates may disable your ability to copy and/or play Secure Content and use other software on your computer.  If we provide such a security update, we will use reasonable efforts to post notices on a web site explaining the update.
My understanding would be that if they want to they can erase your MP3's keep you from burning any more or copying.  And also disable any media player that they want to.  And like the article above states they amy even infect you with a virus.  They released a supplemental disk to Korea .net developers that had nimda imbeded in it.  I wonder what the Department of Justice will have to say because Microshaft could use this to disable Realplayer, and MusicMatch Jukebox if they wanted to.
