Default Analysts expect "mass migration" to VoIP

Voice-over-IP (VoIP) may still be a topic for geeks and early adopters, but analysts expect the technology to go mainstream within a decade. According to In-Stat, 2005-2009 will be the consumer and small business VoIP ramp-up period, and migration to VoIP will peak in the 2010-2014 time frame. Depending on a carrier's strategy for migration to a Next-Generation Network (NGN), migration time frames could be accelerated or delayed, according to the market research firm.

I think that I may end up getting it when I get a house, but my parents are too ... challenged... to get it...

Yeah, our local cable company is coming out with VoIP soon (Shaw), and my mom is considering getting that.. but I told her about Vonage cause it's way cheaper and from what I hear it is really good, however she is iffy about it because she has never heard of the company before and doesn't understand the whole VoIP concept. She actually asked me if Vonage is legit haha.

i use it. my employer sent me a polycom VoIP phone. pretty slick, its kind of nice to have an office style phone at home. down sides: connection goes down - no phone, 911 issues, nothing else that i can think of.

can't beat free calls to anywhere!

later
