Default Radeon x700 pro driver problem

Hey,

I am new here, but I hope you can help me out. I am having a problem with my graphic card drivers when I try to install them on Windows XP SP2. (I just recently tried upgrading this pc to WinXP, everything worked fine on Windows 2000).

The problem is: When I have the drivers installed for the graphics card (Radeon x700 pro 256mb AGP), Windows can run for about 2 minutes and then crashes (will run forever with drives uninstalled). Since I need the drivers to play games and such, is there a solution to this?

My pc:
ASRock K7VT400 PRO
AMD Athlon 2400+ (@2250mhz, 149mhz FSB)
1gb PC3200 DDR-SDRAM
ATI Radeon x700 PRO 256mb AGP
Screen is connected to DVI

Some AGP related bios settings:
Auto speed (4x, 8x)
Aperture size: 256mb (max)
Fast write off
AGP 3.20 calibration Auto
AGP GD Staggered Delay Auto
AGP GDS Output Delay Auto
PCI delay transaction: Disabled
AGP voltage: High

I have tried both the latest ATI catalyst drivers AND the alternative drivers from www.omegadrivers.net.

This is a pc with Windows XP Service pack 2, directx 9.0c, All special VIA drivers (USB, AGP and some more system functions).

It all ran perfectly on Windows 2000!
Temperatures are also okay in Atitool: about 40C(= about 104F) idle. CPU runs at 35C idle.

Please help! Thanks a lot!
