IE Downloads
For some reason I get alot of people asking me why their downloads in IE always start at WAY above dial up speeds (28KB/s) then after about 5 seconds go back down to 5KB/s or there abouts.
I just thought Id post why here as some might not know and its a really simple explation that I say WAY too much.
Heres how it works.
When you click a link to d/l a file in IE it asks you where you want to save it, correct?
Basically IE is downloading the file while you are picking where to put the sucker.
Hence when you switch to the d/l speed bit it has to "catch up" to where the download is upto.
This explains why you see people on cable saying that they d/led a 5meg file in 1/2 a second, which is WAY above the theoretical cable speed or 10mb (bits NOT bytes) a sec, and even further from the practical speeds most people achieve (around 300KB/s to 800KB/s depending on how many people share the HFC in your area).
Hope that saves answers one of those niggling questions most people seem to have in the nback of there minds.
