just happened that i have opened up a samsung HDD as well

dont know why but they seem to be the prime targets for "HD exploration" for me as well
lol

btw _Aemon, are you aware that Maxtor only gives out 1 year of warranty unless the top of the line drives
and seagate gives out 5 years even for their cheap drives?

stinky I was referring to the seagate drive.... your IBM broke because it was in an AMD system (actually just because it's an IBM drive :P )

maxtors were pretty crappy, but they have been getting better, i have 2 older 60GB drives that at the time were the fastest ones out.. one is giving me minor issues because it overheated and fried a bearing but still runs!(when i get to the end of the drive, the platters slow to much and the drive has to 'park' the head to let the platters spin back to spec) and no data loss yet..

as for hitachi drives, i have 2 of those also, fastest ones in my machine! after IBM sold their hard disk rights and such, they have only gone up in quality, and hitachi will honor the original IBM warrantee!

but WD best out there IMO
seagate is also a great drive with good features for those looking for reliability and survivability (impact and other damages)
