Default Back from the dead???!!!!

Recently, one of my high school teachers called me with a problem with two computers. One, just need an OS installed...did that quickly. The other one however, would not power up. So disconnected everything, ended up with just MB, CPU, Memory. Still no power. I was wondering if it was CPU, or MB (probably MB I know!). so, I, put her CPU in my MB, to test it. It woulden't get no video. then suddently, I heard a ZAP, sound of electronic burning. And MY motherboard woulden't work (woulden't power up, not at all). So I went to frys, looked for the specific mother board I wanted in my next system, and coulden't find it. I came back, said, what the hell, and tried it again. AND IT BOOTED UP! how? the? hell???

Edit: the burning, and the Zap, was the test CPU. but before it zapped it still got no video. so the CPU was dead before I completly burned it

it still dosen't make any sense how a motherboard can not even power one second and power on the next

anyways, before the processor burned up, I didn't get any video, which means it might have been dead to begin with. or at least I hope *gulp*
