Default Ghost in the machine ?

Hi, I have a compaq presario 3612AP machine running winxp pro and the problem is when try to shut down. It will off for 2-3 seconds (no lights, completely off) then it will on by itself....

Please advice.

Is it still under any kind of warranty? If so, let them know about it.

Perhaps there is something physically wrong with the case that causes it to turn back on?

At any rate, when it turns off, you can always unplug it so that it doesn't turn back on :?

Yes, thats what I think. If I off the power and on again. It won't start by itself. Only happens when choose to shut down using windows or pressing the power button.

well shutting down using windows is the only method you use should

perhaps there is a Wake-on-LAN conflict?
or something queueing it to boot up again

It's likely a short.
Check the area around the motherboard where the power switch jumper pins are and see for any metal filings; check the wires going to the power switch and the power switch, as well.

I believe it is a wake up lan if you are connected via a lan.

I thought this was going to be about the Anime! lol Ghost in the Machine is a very good anime!
