Default IDE controller question

ok so ive got this dilemma. i want to put 2 or 4 channel PCI ide controller in my comp so i can fit an extra DVDrom or burner and an additional hardrive. i plan on using the firt few thousand sectors of the Hard drive specifically for a page file, and it will be on its own channel, my question is: would it be better to place the new HD on a native IDE channel, or will i have the same performance if i put it on one of the PCI controller channels? because im wondering if there is likely to be any bottlenecking on the PCI bus.

Native channels will have much higher performance, about 40 to 50 MBps. Anything that goes through a PCI Bus will have a max transfer of about 10 to 12 MBps.

you're confused. PCI bus is about 127-132 MBPS

You might have got that number by incorrect math, thinking it's 127 mbps (Bits pers second, not bytes)

or you might of been thinking USB 1.0, those rates are also applicable
