All our work stations are running Windows 95. I can deleat the files in windows/temp and windows/cookies fine, but for some reason I cant delete the files in windows/tempoary internet files. Its pissin me off cuz these computers have files on there from 1996!!!
Please let me know why so I can fix the darn things.

Re: Getting Rid of the Dam Temp Internet Files
What kind of error are you getting?
I have had troubles deleting some peoples temp internet files because they had too many an the computer kept crashing while trying to delete them.
If all else fails, just boot to dos, go to that dir and do a del *.*

Re: Getting Rid of the Dam Temp Internet Files
Or if you have 256M or more of RAM put temp internet
on ramdisk use xmsdsk and start in autoexec 16m is enough
go to internetsettings and change size and drive, reboot
now you will hear less of the harddrive and temp internet
Is gone when you power down.

Re: Getting Rid of the Dam Temp Internet Files
go into PURE DOS mode. that's start->shut down -> restart in dos mode
then well you have to know dos a bit. you need to be in directory c:\windows\TEMPOR~1
and type del *.*

Re: Getting Rid of the Dam Temp Internet Files
Well, since you have win95, it may deleteing them but win95 didn't always show them as deleted until you click 'view' then 'refresh' . Try that and see if they are gone.
If not then in addition to the above , try this:
A-) Do a search/find for *.tmp
when displayed, delete them all.
B-) Boot to DOS or get to a "C" prompt and enter:
deltree c:\windows\history ( press enter)
Answer-Yes
At next prompt, enter:
deltree c:\windows\tempor~1 (press enter)
again say yes (This may take a little while)
At next "C" promt type- exit
it will then return to windows
C-) Under Tools/ internet options set Days to Keep History in memory to 0.
D-) under the Advanced tab/ Security select "Empty Temporary Internet files folder when browser is closed"
E-) If you want to control the size of the Temporary Internet Cache, go to Tool/ Internet Options /Temporary Internet Files/ Settings and set the size of your cache.
F-) IF you set it to 2megs, for example, IE will attempt to keep the TIFs under the 2meg mark by periodically purging old files.
Some of the above should delete all the TIF and help you get a handle on them for future maintenance.

Re: Getting Rid of the Dam Temp Internet Files (Do
Yeah, there are bunch of utils to clean temporary IE files, but you can solve the the problem with one simple batch file.
You can include :
deltree/y c:\windows\temp
deltree/y c:\windows\tempor~1
deltree/y c:\windows\cookies
you can also delete history, recent docs, or NN temp the same way.
Of course you can delete temporary IE files from DOS mode only, so make shortcut for that file to reboot in DOS mode. Or add to autoexec.bat on every WS.
As simple as that
Cheers
