Default Stupid Question....

When hardware RAID 5 in implemented on a server and one of the disks goes down, the system continues to perform normally. My question is, can you just pull the down disk and then put the new one in and let it regenerate on its own or is there more to it than that ( e.g. Do you have to take the server down and manually regenerate the RAID Array ). I am new at this so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I think you can as long as it's hot-swappable...
