Default dirx 9c

i downloaded and installed dirx 9c on my internet computer but when i copied the files over to my gaming computer, it wouldn't install. i copied the files over a couple of times then i copied the archive file (directx_9c_redist.exe) over and extracted them there and it still wouldn't install. then i connected to the net and tried to download and install using "dxwebsetup.exe". i keep getting the message, "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted.". does anyone know what the problem could be? i've never seen that message installing dirx before. thx, maxwell

machine it won't install on:

asus a7v8x mobo
athlon xp 2000+
nvidea ti 4200 8x vid card w/128 mgs ram
win 98 se

make sure you are up to date on windows updates and service packs, also make sure cryptographic services are running.... do a scandisk, and check for viruses and spyware

this is one of those weird error messages that i am really not sure what it actually means and there are any number of things that could fix it..... redownloading the file may fix it tho (like Jason said)

thx. i'll check 4 viruses. i know i don't have spyware because i constantly monitor my hd and registry. i was going 2 red/l the file but then i realized, as i stated when i first posted, that i first tried the redist pack [ which worked fine on my second comp] then i tried d/l'ing and installing from ms (dxwebsetup.exe).

any other viewpoints/observations/suggestions. thx

found the problem. found the following in scandisk.log:

"Directory entry C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SOFTPUB.DLL had an invalid first cluster.
ScanDisk deleted the directory entry"

so, i extracted that file from the cab it was in on the disk to win/sys and dirx 9c installed fine.

thx, again for the replies.
