Default 56k modem hell

ok, I have this client PC, it they have netzero. At first, the modem woulden't even respond (even through the driver showed fine). So I removed it and re-added it, and it worked fine. I took a bunch of Wan/VPN junk out of thier network (based on the software on thier computer, they don't use it). Anyways, after dialing up NetZero, the dialing work, user/pass authentication works, but then it says it can't connect to net zeros network. I went through the networks TCP/IP settings, and the TCP IP properties isn't...complete. It only had DNS, Advanced, and bindings. I know this isn't how the TCP/IP config should look. What's more intreasting, is if I add another TCP/IP, it had everything it should. But when I apply, and restart, it only has one TCP/IP, and it's the one with only 3 tabs.

anyone have ANY idea what is wrong here?
