Ericsson, Napster Team for Mobile Phone Music
"The world's biggest telecommunications equipment provider has teamed up with popular Internet music service Napster to make it simpler for mobile phone operators to open up online music stores for their customers. The two companies have developed a music downloading system that operators can use to deliver full songs to their customers' mobile phones, Ericsson and Napster said this week."

There's an option for most vehicles that increases brake horsepower, increases mileage, increases driver control, lasts longer than the alternative, and even reduces the price of the vehicle. Despite all this, most people in this country choose the alternative, an automatic transmission.

I don't know if I'd agree with you on that (the gimmick part; of course it'll make bank). If they offer competitive pricing, which they likely will due to the competition with Nokia, it'd be a pretty attractive offer being able to download quality legal MP3s anywhere and possibly listen to it on anything around you (with a phone like the W800i) . Lately, I've been very impressed with Sony. They are (in terms of capabilities, qualities, and performance) the undoubted king of the portable gaming, the upcoming gaming console/home entertainment center, the blue-lasered high definition DVD, and cell phone (currently*; both entertainment and productivity segments) markets. They've arguably also got some of the best portable MP3 players on the market. Sony has also had, for over a decade running now, the best direct-view CRTs available to consumers.
Honestly, I think that this is a necessary step for these markets, just like music purchase and subscription services were for portable MP3 players, (and countless other examples in the recent years,) because with all these new capabilities that devices are coming with, there must be a way to fully exploit their potential.
*In the generation of phones currently rolling out, the throne may be taken from Sony by the Nokia Nseries.

Yahoo! Music Unlimited owns them all.
Yahoo! Music Unlimited > Rhapsody > Napster > iTunes
