Default Ventrillo and problems with my mic

OK this is my problem i have bought 3 new mics in the past couple weeks and this problem keeps persisting so i think it mite be my sound card. I have a Creative Labs Live soundcard 24 bit (7.1) When i use ventrillo to talk to my clan mates for BF2 all they hear is a loud screeching sound and then they yell at me has anyone else had this problem or any suggestions on how to fix it?

I suggest testing out the mic in sound recorder, see if you can record and hear your own voice. Double check your connections and sound options. I know sometimes the mic comes muted by default, but that can't explain the screeching.
