Default Mail in Rebates Evil?

The everlasting mail in rebate topic has shown its ugly face again. This time the Tech Report debates the question of rebates and asks for your comments.

Following on the heels of our Friday deal of the week post is this evening's topic: the ever-growing, can't-kill-it phenomenon of the mail-in rebate. I hate them, and I want them to die. They are intentionally designed for and depend on low redemption rates in order to succeed, and rebate processing firms game things in order to ensure their success. Their shady practices bilk consumers out of millions.

Rebates

I think theres a division of the rebates company dedicated to coin tossing to decide which rebates are filled and which are not. Personally it seems my luck is not too good with the coin tossers.

Always photocopy (and notarize if possible) all documents before you send, and send them as certified mail. That gives you legal recourse in the case that you do not get your rebate.

NOTE: Return Receipt does not serve as a legal document in court, but the cheaper Certified Mail does, as proof that it was received.

The only carb that matters is under the hood.
There's an option for most vehicles that increases brake horsepower, increases mileage, increases driver control, lasts longer than the alternative, and even reduces the price of the vehicle. Despite all this, most people in this country choose the alternative, an automatic transmission.
