The TechZone review of the Samsung SyncMaster XL20
On the outside the Samsung SyncMaster XL20 looks like your run of the mill
20" LCD, but on the inside there's a difference in some of the underlying
technology. Rather than using a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) as a
backlight the XL20 uses an array of that geeks favourite source of
illumination, the LED. In particular, this unit uses an RGB LED that
produces a very true white as well as a perfectly even backlight. This is
said to produce 114% of the NTSC colour gamut. There's a full run-down on
what this monitor can do on the next page as to what this monitor can do.
The long and the short of it is Samsung has saddled this new backlight
technology to an already super-bright 250cd/m² monitor with a 1000:1
contrast ratio and an 8ms pixel response time, which makes for a very
exciting product that we're hoping pans out in testing.
