Default TDK or Plextor

Getting ready to do a little upgrading.  What do you think?  Should I get the TDK VeloCD 16x10x40 or the Plextor PlexWriter 16x10x40???

From what I have read the TDK has the better software package, but it seems that I have also read that the Plextor will read the hidden data on the disk where the TDK won't.  Any truth to this rumor???

Help me out here.  I want to buy the CD-RW within the next two weeks or so.  Where should I buy it?  Anyone got a low price for me?

Thanks for you help.  Dave

I suggest getting the Plexwritor.  I have a plexwriter and I have had no touble with it whatsoever.  I know many people that use them as well.  Truthfully, I really do not know anything about the TDK writer.  I know that the plextor has a lot of advanced features like burnproof.  If you want to find the lowest price for that burner check out www.pricewatch.com.  I buy all of my comptuer hardware from vendors off of here.

I second what admin said about the Plextor drives.  It's not only a rumor but it's a truth about that hidden data track. Plus, the new burnproof technology can't be beat as far as saving you TONS of time trying to burn a CD. I own two myself.

Hulaboy and admin...thanks for the opinions.  I was doing a bit more research today and found that the TDKs do read the subchannel stuff...same as Plextor.  The software package is much better with the TDK (Nero 5) so I may be  going with the TDK.

I have heard that TDK is just a Plextor drive with a different name.  Have you heard this?  Any place you know of that has done a review that could confirm this.  Their specs look conspicuosly similar.

Also, some of the poeple have mentioned a software package named "CloneCD".  Have you ever heard of it and do you know where I could purchase it?

Thanks, Chaplndave

Whoa...I just checked out TDK's website and they have a 24X10X40 burner?!?!?  I don't know if the TDK burners are just Plextor's repackaged as TDK burners.  Where did you see this?  I'd definitely like to get a gander at the article or ad.  From what I can tell, some of my friends (2) do own TDK burners.  They had a couple of burn problems with them but nothing substantial.  Of course, those were the older drives too.  So, I'm not quite sure on how they are now.  If all you're after is Nero 5.5, you can get that anywhere.  It's also a lot of help to have it packaged already with your burner too.  By the way, do you know if this is just the "Lite" version of Nero (if there really is a lite version) or is it a full blown retail package?

Wow...just surfing the net and found the TDK 16x10x40x for $185 plus $6.95 S & H.  They threw in a 50 pack of CDR medium.  But the best thing is that there is also a $30 rebate good until June 30, 2001!  That effective puts the price of the drive with 50 CDRs at about $160 with shipping.  I bought it at Egghead on Sunday night.  It was to me by today (Tuesday), but unfortunately I wasn't home to sign for it.  I have signed the paper that comes from UPS and they will leave it at my house tomorrow.  Whoohooo.  I'm siked!
