DOes anyone know of software that act as voice mail or answering machine that works with DSl? I used to have the Microsoft phone software but it doesn't work with XP.

i dont quite get what you need

DSL runs on a phone line
so when you say answer machine, doesnt that have to do with hardware

or if you are talking about capturing VOI then you need some special hardware
because DSL modems dont take VOI
atleast not that i know of

your need sounds like its for dialup not DSL
thats why im confused

Not sure about the best software for it, but you can run a phone line into a analog modem, if it is voice enabled, should be able to provide caller ID, fax and answering machine voicemail (multiple message boxes) capablity even while online with DSL. Most voice enabled Modems come with some sort of software (usually crapy, limited versions) but once you know the idea works you can upgrade.
I can highly UN-recommend Communicate! (01 software), even free it's is overpriced
Something from the symantec/Winfax family might work. [/u]

you can have call management systems such as the Ericsson CyberGenie

but DSL modems dont do VOI
(voice over internet)

so i guess if you have the hardware
go to the site which the brand the hardware is made of
then find the appropriate software for it
each hardware has its own specifications and features
so it is best to find one that is made for what you have
