Intel says goodbye to overclocking

the skinny: Intel has a patent on technology to impede the ability of people to overclock their processor. Unknown if this will be implemented but scary that they developed and patented the technology in the first place.

i am really not happy with intel and i wish i had gotten an amd instead of this p4 but they won't be coutning on me buying fromt hem again they alreayd restricted overclocking in the bios on a p4 that is bad enough.But AMD has my fullest support.gay intel.

my comp never works perfectly.. i always have some mysterious thing.. like now i have the now named.. bf1942 lag.. which now sometimes happens outside of the game.. every second or so it'll stop, then go fine.. then stop.. and it goes away after a while..

Glad to see that Intel is still keeping up with attracting they're ever slowly decreasing crowd...heh

This is only with Intel designed boards. IE Dell, HP, IBM, etc. The boards that have VIA, SIS, MIS etc chipsets can be OC. Although they can next windows system I get will have an AMD chip in it.

The thing is, when new chipsets come out for Intel, Intel is the first to bring in the new wave because the others base theirs off Intels to a degree. So if you want the latest and greatest (from Intel that is) as it is emerging and you want to overclock it - too bad.

Regarding the fact that Intel's customer base is shrinking, it is going to take a major hit soon with the AMD K8 processors coming out April 22nd. nVidia has already got their chipset series, such as the nVidia K8S, out just waiting for AMD to start shipping the processors. The K8's are based off of the Hammers, which are 64-bit processors capable of running the current 32-bit instruction code we use today.

I like AMDs 64bit chips because it works with all 32bit apps as well as the 64bit ones. Intel doesn't have such a chip and won't have one in the near future.
AMD was going to start selling those chips by now, but now they are coming in the summer or fall of this year. There will be two chips for consumer PCs Athlon 64 and the mobile version of that.

Yeah your right VeeEss, but that is the same way for AMD chips to an extent.

I know, but that's exactly what I am saying, AMD gives you freedom, so if they both come out with a new line of chips and you want the the best from either one of them, you can only overclock the AMD's.
