Default WINXP Install Problem

I have tried to install Win XP Pro on a computer of mine which was on 98SE. The computer has an ECS K7S5A motherboard, 256 ram, AMD 1.6XP CPU, Voodoo Banshee AGP Card and Soundblaster audio, plus a Lan card - don't know which.

Two hard drives, one still runs 98SE (primary slave), the other is being partionned to NTSF format and XP installed, problem is the setup freezes all the time in the same spot. Once installing devices???

total time to install is 51 minutes and it freezes at 35mins. Anyone have a clue of what the problem could be.

do you know if the data on the hdd has been erased?

if so, try completely clearing it first

try removing anything non critical from your computing, and installing, if all goes well, install the other devices one by one

What Ryon said is what I believe to be to be the best solution. Strip the system of everything except the core components when you install, then add everything else once the install is complete.

That doesn't make too much sense, but I see lots of people downloading and running funky progs these days, if you DO fix it (system restore) don't screw around anymore

back to the first guys problem...just take the whole hd out where 98se is on so you can trouble shoot the other one that your formatting to NTFS. Make it the primary one now and make sure its totally cleared out. As for your LAN card, its built into the mobo. I love that mobo. I have the same one!

Default bloody xp install

i've had 98 for years and it always worked fine but the minute i tried to upgrade to xp it kept sticking on 23 minutes to go. However (now heres the good bit) it has installed enough to wipe any trace of 98 from my system and everytime i restart it tries to restart the setup program and sticks at 23mins the result.... endless looping and very dead computer any help?

p.s. it asks for a lot of dll's when installing cos it seems to find them in the wrong directories i have located or replaced all of them with ones borrowed from a mates computer will this be whats making it stick and if so how do i fix it (preferably without losing everything on the machine)
