Well let me put it this way. I don't use your comp on the day 2 day basis. I don't know what you like about what you have or what you dislike. What I do, is if I have a problem, I look for a solution. Sometimes, the solution is buying a new part. I'm sure keefe would love your $ though, so if you are really confused, that might not be such a bad route.

For a specific answer, I think you should get a $100 socket 754 motherboard, get $220 64-bit AMD, BFG GF5900 ($150 if you price match @Best Buy for Fry's $199 price and then send in $50 MIR), $100 M-Audio Revolution 7.1, and finally the remaining 100 or so dollars to whoever gives you the idea.

what's with the m-audio? I know nothing about it but it sounds like some generic 7.1 card? It prob isn't for that price.. but an audigy 2 at newegg is like $65 or something! oem of course.. but still.. he doesn't have 7.1 (or 6.1) speakers.. Oh and what about ram.. ram makes a lot more diff than a sound card for most things.

M-Audio has comes from a professional audio background and their sound card provides better gaming support (EAX, Sensaura, etc.) but doesn't have as many connections, which really hurts the Revolution because the biggest one they are lacking is a midi port or gameport. (But then again, isn't that what USB [2.0] is for now?)
