hmm, from my reading, ATI has actually overtaken Nvidia in market share for chips in general (not sure about vid cards specifically). So the implication may not be that strong. also, is Nvidia planning on releasing a card compatible with PCI express. my impression is that it is not, while ATI is. So ATI will have more experience with that standard than Nvidia, which is a pretty significant change compared to stepping up pipelines in a processor.

well if the new nvidia card isn't an fx core.. they have a chance.. I have a similar stance with ati and nvidia.. don't care for either one because of the way things have happened with 3dmark and imo mediocre performance across the board (ie: 9800xt only getting like 80 fps in halo..)

but with amd and intel.. it's a bit more: it's going to take a miracle for me to buy amd.. not saying i never will.. but intel chipsets, reliability, overclockability, etc always seem to be top notch. while amd has lousy chipsets often

Yeah, I love Intel chips too, but I mostly get AMD, they seem to have better performance in games, but not video editing, but that doesn't matter to me. I built my sister's boyfriend a P4 system over the weekend, it was a P4 3.00 Ghz 800 fsb that I immediatly overclocked to 3.30 Ghz. It runs at 33 C on the stock fan. I do, however, love this AMD 64 that I have. It's fast and cool, and it works great with my Raid 0. I'm actually running it on "cool 'n quiet" right now.

yea.. odd thing is I have never done any video editing.. and i do game.. sigh.. oh well..

ps: part of the gaming and video editing diff's are the way teh chipsets and memory's differ.. for amd tight timings are most important (games) and for p4's bandwidth is god.. (editing..) so it makes me wonder how much the cpu itself has to do with it
