Default M4A to Mp3

i am trying to burn m4a audio files but i the program wont read them is there a way i could convert them to mp3 files is there is a good but free program share the wealth.

Is it absolutely legal? - Yes!
It just re-records the audio signal and works only for Napster, iTunes (and more) customers who has paid for the music!
