Setting Up & Testing The Klipsch iFi
The Klipsch iFi works with all dockable iPods,
including the iPod mini and iPod photo (an adapter
for the new iPod Nano hasn't been made yet). Early 1G/2G iPods and iPod shuffles
can't be docked but can connect via the audio port on the rear of the dock or
subwoofer. Setting up the Klipsch iFi is more complex than the other iPod
speaker systems we've tested because there are more parts to assemble. However,
anyone who has set up a pair of computer speakers
before will have no problem setting up the iFi.
As shipped from the factory, the control dock
does not require that the RF remote control to be synched, meaning any iFi
remote will control the system. If a conflict arises with multiple units being
operated in close proximity to each other, the remote can be matched to the
control dock by holding down the Play/Pause button for 10 seconds while the
system is on. The unit will go into standby mode and after 10 seconds will be
properly synched. From that point forward, the system will only work with
remotes that have been synched.
As we've stated at the start of the review, the
Klipsch iFi is the best sounding iPod music system we have heard to date. The
sound quality is simply head and shoulder above anything claiming to be an iPod
music system. The volume the iFi can reach is not only room filling, but floor
shaking thanks to 200 watts of power and a massive 8-inch subwoofer that produce
awesome bass response. The satellite speakers are among the sweetest we've
heard, with near perfect upper midrange and extended highs that were never
fatiguing. Staging and imaging was spot on and extended beyond the physical
boundaries of the satellite speakers. Overall, an extremely convincing musical
performance.
