Thermaltake DuOrb CPU Cooler
A Closer Look:
As you may have realized by this point, the DuOrb is a massive heat sink, although it is not the largest i have seen, it is among the larger of its caliber. Standing mere 86.4mm off the motherboard, and spanning a distance of 202mm long and 106mm wide, this heat sink is a giant. Utilizing dual 80mm fans that are recessed down into the heat sink itself. With room between each fin, both fans not only cool down the processor but also surround components as well. Such components could be things like RAM, VRM, North Bridge, and the back of VGA card.
The DuOrb is essentially two separate heat sinks that are joined together with metal brackets. Each of the two sides both have three dedicated heat pipes to help dissipated the heat properly. This gives the heat sink a total of six heat pipes, which is more than most normal heat sinks have. The DuOrb is actually made up of two different types of heat sinks, both Copper and Aluminum. Usually companies decide to use one or the other, but thermaltake decided to take both and use them together to try and create a superior heat sink. You can see in the image above, the aluminum is placed just below the fans, whereas the copper heat sinks are used on the outside to surround the fans.
The base is constructed of a highly polished copper plate. This is to help spread the heat more evenly and faster to the six heat spreaders place just above it. The base of the heat sink was very flat, with not being the slightest bit concave or convex. Why is this important you may be thinking, well its because the heat sink is only as effective as the contact made with the processor.
As you can tell with the open fin design, the Thermaltake DuOrb not only cools down the processor, but also other components in your system. So, not only are you going to receive superior cooling for your processor, but this heat sink will also keep your RAM cooler and even your North bridge. Where the red-light orb cools the RAM area, the blue-light orb cools the surrounding area.
