The CoolDrive Lite is designed to take up a five and a quarter bay on the
case and utilize a 4 pin pass through Molex plug from the power supply for
the CoolDrive Lite’s fan. The Molex pass through is no big deal, but
if you already have quite a few of these pass through Molex connectors already,
then inside of your case will start to look like a spaghetti mess. There is
room for an upgrade from Cooler Master to change the four pin Molex to a three
pin plug so it can be connected to motherboard for monitoring purposes. The
CoolDrive Lite is made from Aluminum which is a very good material for heat
transfer. The fan within the CoolDrive looks a little on the weak side, but
really moved some serious air. After looking at the CoolDrive for a while
I could see that it is possible for Cooler Master to design a model with two
fans as there was adequate space for one.
The installation is no big deal. The back end of the hard drive
is exposed to in the interior so if you are using some high end IDE ribbon
to connect the HD to the motherboard you don’t have to be concerned
about the cool causing interference between the HD and the high-end ribbon.
This also provides you the ability to go from an IDE drive to a SATA drive
without having to replace the CoolDrive Lite completely.
