Samsung 172B 17" LCD
Review by Navid Mortezaei on 03.07.03
The LCD Panel itself:
Cutting right to the chase, the Samsung 172B is very well designed, and is one of the best looking LCD Panels
on the market today. This LCD monitor measures 17" and has an attractive 1cm wide bezel. It's also equipped with a multimedia base
that includes two speakers and can also be used to mount the monitor on the wall.
Above, the reverse side of the display is shown. The back is very simple yet nice; on the top,
"SAMSUNG" is printed in large letters.
On the back of the multimedia base there are the two connectors this monitor has: a 14 volt DC connector for the power adapter and a VGA connector to connect to the graphics card.
Above is the product information sticker from the back of the display, which has the unit's serial number, model number, hazard warnings etc.
As pictured above, the multimedia base is very flexible and versatile. It can very easily be raised and lowered with a simple motion.
The Samsung 172b is one of the thinnest monitors in the world. This is accented by comparing its width to the diameter of a CD; the LCD panel is about 2 cm thick. It might seem that Samsung would have to make sacrifices in order to produce such a thin profile LCD, however, as will be discussed in more depth later in the review, this is simply untrue.
Pictured above is the control panel of the monitor. There are six buttons: Auto, Exit, Adjust up, Adjust down, Menu, and power. The Auto button simplifies the setup process to just a single press of a button. This automatically adjusts settings based on a smart technology that senses where the desktop is being rendered on the display. For manual configuration though, the menu system is comprehensive and in-depth.
