Samsung 172B 17" LCD
Review by Navid Mortezaei on 03.07.03
Testing:
The image quality of this Samsung is excellent. While running at 1280x1024 at 32 bits, and a refresh rate of 75Hz, the Samsung 172B provides a sharp and clear image. DVD and other video playback is also superb and no noticeable ghosting occurred. This is not to say ghosting never occurs. The monitor does exhibit this behavior marginally in some specific situations, such as during certain gaming scenarios, which explains why LCD panels are still not the optimal solution for gaming.
Conclusion:
The Samsung 172B retails around $600 US today. The monitor has excellent picture quality and is very slim and lightweight. It has a stylish bezel, which makes the monitor stand out.
The multimedia base makes this particular LCD a good solution for people who don't have a lot of desk space, since it negates the need to have standalone speakers. Additionally, the radiation level of the LCD is very low compared to conventional CRT monitors, and are therefore easy on one's eyes.
