Razer Pro|Type Keyboard with iPod Dock
The Experience
Out of the box, the keyboard is nothing short of spectacular. It is just as elegent out of the box as it is pictured on the box. However, now you get to enjoy it's beauty in your very own hands. The construction of the keyboard is very solid, it does not feel flimsy at all. Below is my first test run of the keyboard with my black 4GB iPod plugged into the dock and working flawlessly. No connection issues were encountered at all. At first I was not able to use the media keys for iTunes but I soon figured out that the default media program was set to Windoes Media Player, however, after changing that setting I was able to use the media keys while playing various games without the game minimizing and ruining my gaming experience. The picture viewer keys located on the right side of the keyboard do as they say which really makes browsing picture more of a breeze sometimes as you don't have to use your mouse to locate the rotate button or zoom in or out.
From a side view, we can see that the keyboard is not much thicker then a nickel. However, length and width wise it can take up some desk space. It is definitely worth it though as it looks great and has many functions. The only problem is for users that have sliding keyboard trays as one may accidently push the tray back under the desk with the iPod still in it's dock.
The Razer Logo on the wrist pad of the keyboard fades in and out occasionaly, adding a nice visual effect.
At night, the keyboards backlit keys are shown off nicely but the keys are not too bright and would allow one to fall asleep comfortably if they were to leave their computer on overnight. Also provides some extra lighting to help you find your finger placement if you lose it at night like I tend to do. In addition, I sometimes press the L buttons by accident trying to find shift or caps lock simply because I'm not used to there being extra buttons to my left side. However, with some time I'm sure I won't make this mistake anymore.
The keys themselves are very quiet and feel soft to the touch. Keystokes are easy and do not require an excess of pressure. Spacing is appropriate as it is a full size keyboard, the wrist support is not too short and actually makes the keyboard much more ergonomic. Many keyboards fall short here by providing too little wrist space and become a nuissance after a while. This one, I feel, excels here and is of the most comfortable keyboards I've used to date. I especially love the media keys as I tend to listen to music whenever I'm not playing games, so being able to hit a button on the side of the keyboard to quickly change songs without alt-tabbing to iTunes or Winamp really helps a lot. The convenience of having an iPod dock is great too as I always misplace my iPod cable and can never find it, or I'm already using up all my available USB ports.
