VOX TV-R HDD Media Player/Recorder
Hard Drive Performance
Considering the VOX TV-R is basically a portable hard drive, I decided to further test it with a series of hard drive benchmarking software. I then proceeded to compare the results with a 120 GB Western Digital Passport Hard Drive.

Crystal Disk Mark 2.1 has a plethora of testing options by presenting you with the ability to test of a certain size range. In this test WD Passport did significantly better than the VOX TV-R especially at the 1000 MB range. This means that the Western Digital Passport will be able to transfer data faster when the file sizes approach 1000 MB, however, at the 50 MB file size both will exhibited similar performance.

DataMarck is a benchmark that focuses less on size performance rather on average speeds and seek times across the entire drive. The hard drive in the VOX TV-R showed interesting characteristics. While the first 50 percent of the drive has a very steady 30 MB per second transfer speeds, they deteriorate very quickly towards the outer parts of the drive. While the general performance of the drive will not be greatly affected in terms of watching movies and listening to songs, if you were to large transfer files, you might find a very slight difference in transfer speeds depending on where the data is stored.

Similarly to DataMarck, HD Tune Pro examines read speeds and seek time across the entire drive. The pictures above provide an even more detailed graph of the performance per sector of both WD Passport and the VOX TV-R. Again we can see a sudden deterioration of performance at the 50 % mark. In general these performance deteriorations can be contributed to the nature of the hard drives themselves. Since the outer edges of the drive contain more volume and information than the inner parts, it takes loner to find the appropriate information.
