Without further adieu, benchmarks of the AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and Intel Northwood 1.6A:

Gaming Benchmarks:

Quake 3 Arena

V-sync off

High Quality settings.

The figures are close, but at default speeds, the AMD Athlon XP 2000+ operating at 1666 MHz barely outruns the Intel Northwood 1.6A with an extra 5 frames per second. Running at 2 GHz, the Pentium4 2.0A is equal to the overclocked 1.75 GHz AMD Athlon XP. The 6 fps difference between the Athlon XP 2000+ and a Northwood @ 2.0A is negligible. The performance of an actual 2.0A will be slightly lower than this, and the following results, due to the overclocked 125 MHz system FSB. This particular result does imply that an upcoming 533 MHz Intel P4 Northwood running at 2.0 GHz will be slightly faster.

3DMark2001 Second Edition

3DMark2001 is run with its default settings.

In the past, games benefit from AMD Athlons due to their great 3D performance. This clearly shows the XP 2000+ besting the overclocked 2 GHz Northwood.

More Benchmarks ahead.
