Conclusion
While many may argue that computers are the way of the future, perhaps a better argument would be that networks are the future. While computers, granted, are going to be a major component, the exchange of data is not a thing that will die out shortly. Home networks are becoming common-place, and basic four or five-port switches cannot accommodate the growing size of these networks either. And while business networks have been in existence for many years now, small office do, and will have a continuing demand for affordable products to meet their needs, with good scalability for future expansion and growth (because after all, what small office doesn't aspire to be a medium, or large office?). The Compex DSR2216 offers a great range of features with intuitive configuration, at a price tag that won't break the bank.
Evaluation
The DSR2216 is a terrific choice for large home networks, or small to medium-sized businesses. Its mix of features and straightforward configuration make it a good solution to provide basic network switching with the ability for further configuration, and potential for good network expansion. In a test bed of 12 users over the period of three weeks, no users reported increased latency or decreased bandwidth to the internet or local server. The switch ran flawlessly during this period with no required maintenance or configuration (past the initial set-up).
This switch performed very well, and has earned my personal and professional recommendation.
