Tests:
The wireless performance was tested by transferring a 125MB test file at various distances. The 3Com Fast EtherLink XL (3C905B) was manually set to 10Mbps for this test. (shorter times better)
Distance | Wireless Time (mm:ss) | 10 Base-T Time (mm:ss) |
50 feet (though 3 walls) | 10:20 | 9:40 |
30 feet (through 2 walls) | 9:30 | 7:45 |
3 feet | 6:15 | 7:20 |
In addition, both video and audio was streamed as a simple integrity test to verify no data loss. Media files tested ranged from ~5MB MP3 audio files to ~600-700MB Video files.
The DI-711 was tested as both a router and as a wireless access-point. To set up as a wireless access-point, you should only hook the LAN port to your existing network, do not connect the WAN port.. If you have an additional router, you must disable DHCP on it or on the DI-711, otherwise, all TCP/IP traffic is halted.
