FON: Wifi Everywhere

Provider:  FON
Manufacturer:  FON

What does it look like?
The access point is a small three inch by four inch by an inch tall with an antenna sticking out of it. It doesn’t look all that impressive, but that is its secret. Since the size of the unit is relatively small, it can be installed pretty much anywhere out of the way. With only two plugs (power and RJ45), the hook up was pretty straight fwd (plug it in). Instantly the access point will be up, but unless you have a wireless card in a laptop or maybe your workstation you wouldn’t be able to tell. The appliance came with a CD, which explains all features about the device.

As you can see the size of the appliance it relatively small.

Features:
With a registered account with FON, (being the fact you own a FON appliance) you are able to go anywhere in the world and get on a FON device free of charge. You can find FON device by visiting maps.fon.com and using their map tool which integrated with Google maps. Now this is of course something you do before going to be, not after the fact.

This is just a zoom of the lower Easter area of the United States showing the available FON access points today.
